AIORI Hackathon Series

AIORI-1

AIORI 1 (Advanced Internet Operations Research in India) is an initiative funded by NIXI focused on large-scale Internet standards education, resilient-driven research, and indigenous measurement networks. It aims to foster innovation through community engagement, connecting diverse technology stakeholders.

Overview

Mission

To cultivate leadership in internet technology, mitigate technological risks, and enhance the readiness of next-generation internet use cases in India.

Components

Participants & Institutions

Engagement

The program spans across five geographic zones (North, South, East, West, and North-East) engaging hundreds of delegates.

Stakeholder Mix

Participants include researchers, academia (faculty and students), policymakers, network operators, and industry standards experts.

Institutions

AIORI frequently collaborates with premier academic institutions (e.g., IITs, regional universities) to host Anycast nodes and foster student-driven network projects.

Research Outputs

Visualizers

The project has spawned localized diagnostic and visual tools like DNSViz, IXPViz, RPKIViz, and IETFViz to track and benchmark routing infrastructure.

Publications

Research generated by the platform (e.g., the AIORI-IMN layered architecture) is published in reputable conferences and journals, highlighting standardized and indigenous measurement models.

AIORI-2

AIORI-2 (Advanced Internet Operations Research in India) is a national initiative aimed at accelerating Internet standards education, network measurement, and research. Backed by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and led by the India Internet Foundation (IIFON), it bridges academia, industry, and global standard bodies like the IETF.

Overview

The initiative focuses on two core components:

Institutions

Reach

The initiative spans more than 150 educational and research institutions across India.

Role

Participating colleges and universities act as Measurement Anchors, hosting testbed hardware on campus for localized, real-time data collection.

Research Outputs

Technical Frameworks

Open-source contributions involving IP geolocation constraint-solving, LEO satellite telemetry simulations, and cross-platform container network benchmarking (e.g., CNI comparisons).

Hackathon Projects

Solutions utilizing telemetry and network analytics are published, such as RFC 8805-compliant geolocation data sets.

Key Metrics & Community Platforms

Scale

Engaging hundreds of faculties and thousands of students to build a future-ready Internet engineering talent pool.

The HNDB Portal

The program utilizes the HNDB Portal to showcase talent, facilitate collaboration, and connect students with internships and recruitment.Measurement Dashboards: Insights generated by the anchors are visualized on public tools like DNSViz and IXPViz available via AIORI Main
